The news-and-analysis web-site “European Education Portal in Ukraine” (www.eu-edu.org) is a hub of information about learning opportunities in Europe, Ukraine’s integration with the European Higher Education Area, and harmonization of Ukraine’s education trends with basic principles of European education policy (quality assurance, transparency, autonomy of universities, mobility, education-industry links, credit transfer etc)
Ukrainian students seeking newest and practical information about learning opportunities in Europe, as well as experience sharing with actual or former beneficiaries of European education programs, are the project’s major target group. At the same time, the information resource provides in-depth analytic information about current trends in EU education policies and basic principles of the European Higher Education Area aspired by the Bologna reform, and in this way facilitates raising awareness of Ukrainian academics and public officials of the core of current EU education policies.
General objectives of the project are the following:
-to facilitate Ukraine’s integration with the European Higher Education Area;
-to provide Ukrainian students with more access to information about learning opportunities in Europe, including Germany, France, Belgium, UK, Poland, Hungary, Greece, Sweden, Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, etc
-to facilitate Ukraine’s intercultural and inter-educational communication with EU member states
-to raise awareness of Ukrainian students, researchers, university staff and policy-makers of newest trends in EU education policies
-to start up deeper analysis of benefits and challenges of Ukraine’s integration with Bologna process
Direct objectives of the project are the following:
-to share regular information with Ukrainian students about learning opportunities in the EU;
-to give practical advisory information to Ukrainian students on:
a) finding financial support to study in Europe;
b) basic requirements and conditions of getting a scholarship from an EU member state or EU education programme (Erasmus-Mundus, Jean Monnet, 7th Framework program etc)
c) best European language learning opportunities (German, Polish, French, English, Greek etc)
d) how to write a good application essay
e) how to get better prepared for an interview
-to give regular information to Ukrainian university staff and policy-makers on current trends and principles of EU education policies (knowledge society, lifelong learning, education-research-innovation triangle, mobility, credit transfer, single qualifications framework, public and private partnership etc)
-to give room for exchange of experience between European and Ukrainian university staff and policy-makers on harmonization with Bologna reform, participation in EU education programmes (TEMPUS, ERASMUS-MUNDUS etc)
The project is designed to provide three major types of messages to respond to different needs of Ukrainian audience:
1) news, aimed to provide newest information about learning opportunities and new trends in EU education and research policies.
2) interviews, aimed to provide first-hand information from relevant stakeholders or participants of European education policies.
The project provides three types of interviews:
a) grassroots level: interviews with Ukrainian beneficiaries of EU education programs who will share their experience in finding their learning opportunity, financial support, as well as major tips of living in a host country;
b) mid-level: interviews with academics and university staff on basic trends of European education policies and Ukraine’s integration with Bologna process;
c) top-level: interviews with European and Ukrainian policy makers about major education policy principles and instruments in the EU and Ukraine
3) analytic papers, aimed to provide in-depth analysis basic trends of European education policies and Ukraine’s integration with Bologna process
In its information activity the web-site is particularly focusing on:
-accumulated information about studying opportunities in Europe (in as many European states as possible; primary focus will be given to learning opportunities in Germany, Poland, Hungary, France, UK, Netherlands, Italy, Greece, Spain, but also to non-EU states like Switzerland or Norway)
-regular information about newest trends in EU education policies (Bologna process, European Research Area, lifelong learning, mobility programs, “knowledge triangle” etc);
-interviews with Ukrainian students who already benefited from education opportunities in Europe, including practical information and advice to those who intend continue their education in the EU;
-interviews with EU officials dealing with EU education programmes: clarification of EU major education trends (the web-site was the first Ukrainian information resource to publish an interview with EU education and research Commissioner Janez Potocnik.
-interviews with officials of EU member states’ embassies or cultural centres responsible for co-ordinating of scholarship schemes for Ukrainian students: more practical information about learning opportunities in Europe;
-interviews with officials of Ukrainian universities taking account of progress of Ukraine’s education to EU standards
-analytic papers on newest trends of Ukraine’s integration with the Bologna reform
The web-site has a mailing list including more than 1900 addresses; it also gives free subscription opportunities and will regularly share information through bi-weekly newsletters.
One of the major innovative mechanisms of the proposed initiative consists in applying a context-oriented approach to information. Each news, interview or analytic paper is accompanied with context information and related messages which helps the reader to get in-depth and comprehensive vision of the problem (its model see below in this document)

This chapter will provide information about learning and research opportunities in Europe. The chapter includes sub-chapters “European Commission Education Programs”, “EU Member States Education Programs” (including Germany, UK, France, Poland, Greece, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, Finland, Denmark etc), “Research in Europe”, “Principles of the European education policies”.
3. Bologna Process
This chapter provides background information about the essence and history of the Bologna process which Ukraine joined in 2005. The chapter includes sub-chapters “What is Bologna process?”, “History”, “Basic instruments”, “Basic documents”, “Glossary”, “PhD programs”
4. Ukrainian Education: a European Dimension
This chapter will provide news and analysis of achievements and challenges in the Ukraine’s integration into the European Higher Education Area.
5. About Us
This chapter will provide information about the project, as well as about organizations which implement the initiative (NGO Youth Humanities Centre, Kyiv-Mohyla research “Centre for Intercultural Communication), as well as their other initiatives (Laboratory for Academic Translation)
